Y.M.C.A. as usual. Received a letter from 李主事. At 8 p.m. Mrs. Koons gave a lecture on the scenes of battle-field of Europe―with magic lantern slides.

Y.M.C.A. as usual. Wrote to 李主事 and to 劉庇仁. Sent ￥300.00 for 開畓費.

At 10:30 a.m. address at the theological students on the subject "God honors him or the action that honors the Bible."

Busy preparing for the dedication.

Busy in decorating the Gym. etc. for the dedication. At 3 p.m. the dedication of the Gym. and the installation of the General Secretary took place. The Gov. General represented by Hon. 宇佐美. Only 2 Korean nobles present, Viscount Yi Ha Young and Baron Yi Kui Sung.

Worshipped in 宗橋 Church as usual. At 1 p.m. lunch at Mr. Brockman's. Mr. Philips present. I like him very much. The Japanese Y.M.C.A. seem to have picked men.

Had a chat with Philips at 10 a.m. in the Y.M.C.A. parlor. I told him that an anti-Japanese attitudes or policy would be fatal to the work; that the Y.M.C.A. ought to devote every event to some form of industrial education and that my pro-Japanese attitude would alienate many a Korean. Mr. Philips heartily endorsed my views and advised me to keep the contract. Came to the back ground as it is a touching point with the powers that be. Lunch at 朝鮮ホテル. Mr. 宇佐美 the host, guests Philips, Niwa, Brock, 金麟 and myself. Brock didn't like Kim's present and said so to Niwa afterward. Brock and Niwa and I took picture. At 3:30 called on to 寺內伯 thank him. He received me kindly……

Y.M.C.A. as usual. At 4 p.m. called on Mr. 趙重應. Had a long chat about how to use the Y.M.C.A. to the best advantage.

In the morning gave a cheque for ￥600.00 to Mr. Brockman to be forwarded to Allen. Received a letter from Cram asking me to pay the balance of the loan I got from the Mission to build the Song Do home. My second cousin who gobbled up ￥30,000.00 of my money while he managed my affairs during my trouble, didn't pay this loan. How to get ￥4,200.00 now is a big question. Talked to the theological students on the great contributions of the Jesus to the mankind. T.M. Brockman left Seoul for Shanghai.

Mailed letters to Allen―also to Cram promising to pay ￥2,000.00 by the end of this month. At 7 pm. with 李商在, 金一善, 崔相浩, 諸氏 went to 第一樓 at the invitation of the Chinese language teachers. The supper lasted 3 hours. Met 金日鎬氏.

Received letter from 致旺 dated Apr. 20th. At 10 a.m. with 李商在, 崔相浩, 金一善 went to 淸凉館 to have a quiet lunch with the Methodist pastors. Most of the invited guests came. After lunch, I stated to them that the Y.M.C.A. depended on the church for its success that the church should utilize the Y.M.C.A. for the work of God. At 7 p.m. attended the 勞動學校父兄懇談會.

At 4:30 p.m. the Board of Directors met to receive the report of the committee on nomination. Under the direction of Mr. Barnhart, the Boys Department opened.

Y.M.C.A. as usual. Candler came to Seoul from a trip to Chemulpo with the American, Korean and Japanese boys. Called on 目崎 at 不知火 Hotel. Supper with him. 朴高原 of 元山來訪. Treated him with Korean supper.

Y.M.C.A. staff came to 歡迎會 so called in this 淸凉寺 from 3 p.m. Had Korean supper. 李世植 來參. I slept most of the time and played 將器 with 李世稙. Came home at 7 p.m.

宗橋 Church as usual. After lunch went to 武演洞 to visit mother who has been there for the last few day. Wife and babies went out with me.

Y.M.C.A. as usual. Worshipped at the 宗橋 Church. The 堂會 too long.

Y.M.C.A. as usual. At 8 a.m. addressed to overflowing house on the "Hope of the Central Y.M.C.A." Appealed of the public spirit of the audience for supporting the Y.M.C.A. "If you use this building as you ought to, there is nobody in the world to take this from you."

Y.M.C.A. as usual. At 7 went to 江戶川 at the invitation of 村上唯吉氏, 山縣五十雄, 渡瀨常吉氏. 金麟 and I were the guests. Had Sukiyaki supper. Agreed to have a conversation party at 6:30, on the 4th Friday of each month.

At 10 a.m. called on 趙重應氏 with 金麟. 趙 asked 渡瀨 to come. Then 趙氏 indulged in his usual lecture. Among other things he said " Confucianism can't save Korean people; it has no love, it leads people into office hunting idleness. Christianity with its ideals of universal love and Fatherhood of God can make character." At 6 p.m. went to B. of D. meeting of the Japanese Y.M.C.A. at the home of Mr, Niwa. Supper there.

Called on 阿部社長. He advised me to call on 總督 now and then and to attend the 餞迎 occasions when 總督 leave, or return to, Seoul.

靑年會如前. At 7 p.m. 會員募集晩餐. Dr. Hahn present. He is one of the most generous friends of the 勞動學校.

Y.M.C.A. as usual. At 8 p.m. Mr. 韓相龍 gave a very interesting and instructive talk on 台灣 which he visited.

Y.M.C.A. as usual. At 9:20 p.m. went to Song Do to get a rest to my aching head. Mr. 山縣五十雄 and Mr. 阿部充家 promised to spend a part of tomorrow with me at my Song Do Home.
