Song Do. Lovely morning―visited 扶山洞. The Song Do people make a great deal of this place, yet not a flower in the yard. A broken piece earthen jar for 小便. No sign of any esthetic attempt. To eat and drink under the shade is the hight of the Song Do people's idea of pleasure.

Supper at 梁柱三's. About 8 p.m. 林英正 called on 梁 on his way to Seoul. 林 said he is doing well in his mining business.

In the afternoon went to see 採霞洞. Found it a very beautiful spot. With a little more touches the place would become of the most lovely summer resort in Korea. 朴宇鉉 is to be congratulated for having secured such a lovely place.

Left by the 9:30 a.m. train for 元山―Arrived about 4:30 p.m. Agreeably surprised to see about 100 people form 元山 to welcome. Went first to Collyer's and then went to 魏衡舜's home―a very clean home. Most of the people―old people I used to know 15 years ago are dead.

At 9 a.m. went to 斗南里, 尹's orchard. He began with 60 trees, now he has something like 3000 trees employing a couple of thousand men a year to keep up the orchard. He is laboring under a debt incurred by the carelessness of his son.

At 11 a.m. talked in the 斗南里 Church on John 6:13. Virtues of orderliness, of placing and dedicating our little to God's own disposition, of economy.

After lunch visited at 明沙十里 where some missionaries have started a summer-resort. Nearly 180 people, already 70 people turned away owing to lack of rooms.

Spent last night at Mr. 近藤's. After breakfast called on the 府尹 and Mrs. Manheimar. Then Mr. 近藤 conducted me along the good road made on the top of the hills surrounding the old 監理署 commanding the magnificent view over the bay. The old 監理署 where I spent 4 years still stands.

At 2 p.m. the elders (父老) of 元山大里 invited me to a reception at 安致慶's villa. Then visited 鄭菊山's home.

On The way to 魏's home called on 吳漢英. Met 權主事 who has recently returned from 北間島. He told me that 權主事 who went to 北間島 with nearly 10,000 yen is so reduced in circumstances that he can hardly scrape up ￥200.00 now
