Second cousin came to see me about 5 p.m. Informed me that he had just concluded a bargain for the big Korean house which 金容達 had built or rather improved(180Kan) in 小安洞. That house was originally built or owned by 閔泳雨 (민망난 or 민부처) . It was given to Prince Pak (朴泳孝) by the then Empress in 1894. After Prince Pak quit the house to save his life in the summer of 1895, the house was occupied by 恒屋成服, Mr. P's Japanese confidant. After Mr. 恒屋 left Seoul, Mr. 加藤增雄 lived in it.
12
Then 金容達 the notorious spendthrift bough it, and improved it to such an extent as to make the house reputed being the finest Korean house in Seoul. Then the 漢城銀行 took it over for a debt which 金 owed to the Bank. Lately Baron 趙東潤 bought it for his concubine. His concubine was told by a sorcerer that the house was unluck, so Baron 趙 decided to sell it. My cousin bought it for ¥1,2000. I didn't fancy the house. So big with no decent styles leading to it. Cousin may see money in it.

9 a.m. went to Dr. Thomas' home to see Rev. 中田重治the Japanese Holiness Church man. Found him giving a lecture to the students. Some remarkable statements of this Japanese preacher.

25
1. In all this wide world the only land I possess is the six square feet, in which my parents are buried. Yet I don't want any more land. Why should I? When Christ comes again I shall possess all the lands I want.
26
2. The Christian Churches in America, Europe, in Japan and Korea which approves of the war or going into war show how rotten they are.
27
3. We, Japanese and Korean are laboring under heavy burdens paying taxes to keep up armies and navies. But we must be patient and meek for the meek shall inherit the earth.
28
4. Those are false Christs who don't believe in the second coming of Christ!
29
5. I don't care what becomes of society or state be not participating in war. The question is what shall I be when Christ comes!

30
Paid visit to 兪星濬 who had a fall―persuaded 局長 to marry 玄松子 instead of 梅堂. Brockman who wired to arrive Thursday, again wired to me last Monday. Why in the world doesn't he wait until the day he actually leaves Tokyo or to Asan and then wire?

47
Wife seems to have made up her mind to stay in Song Do longer than I thought she would. She may like to see the new house being built or she doesn't want to give up the old house to Candler until the new one is completed. She is a bundle of selfishness―With lots of the meanest notions of life, her mother is with her―
