Called on Mr. 崔南善, the author of the Declaration of Independence, who had been released yesterday noon on parole. According to his statement, he and his co-prisoners were or are being treated with incomparably greater leniency than I was. They are given plenty of sunbath while I couldn't see the sun except by stealth. They are allowed more time for outdoor exercise while 3 to 5 minutes were all I could get. They are allowed to meet and talk during work hours in the garden while I was forbidden absolutely to hold any sort of communication with anybody. No book except the Bible and absolutely no menas of writing were permitted during my confinement, but Mr. 崔 was given as much freedom in the matters of reading and writing as in his own house.

This morning 1:20 wife gave birth to a son. All well. Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

8 a.m. went to Mr. Frank Brockman's home to breakfast, with Mr. and Mrs. Murray. After the meal had a chat with Mr. M. on the Y.M.C.A. situation in Korea with its political background.
51
From 5 p.m. to 7:30 Mr. and Mrs. M. were entertained to a Korean supper at 明月館 given by the Central Y. Each guest was given a separate table purely Korean fashion, thus avoiding the exceedingly objectionable practice of eating out of one dish by all the guests.
