Song Do home. 3 p.m. the so called Board of Control 普通學校 理事會 and the members of the 學父兄 理事會 of the Northward Common School gave me a reception.

I find the Song Do Higher Common School and the two Common School badly fixed in finance. From all quarters I learn that it was the thoughtless, spread eaglism of Mr. Cram that plunged these schools into great financial embarrassment that Wasson had a hard time to pull them through. At the end of the last month the balance showed only ￥700.00 of credit of the school. To meet the expenditure of this month we have to look to the appropriation of the mission and the tuition from the boys. To carry on such a great plant on a hand-to-mouth basis of finance is a disgrace to the Church. Then to keep up two Common Schools when they haven't money enough to make one a decent school. 元洪九 told me the other day that he wouldn't send his boy to one of these schools if he were not identified with the High School.

By 3 p.m. train my precious 璋善 went to Seoul with his sister Mary Abbe and Allen. I feel so lonely without him. I wish his mother had a little more consideration for my well-being. Would to God I had a wife who could have been my "help mate" instead of being a "hinder-mate"? For the sake of the precious children I must bear with her as best as I may.

A Korean young man named 安昌男 learned to ride an aeroplane in Japan. Very good; but there is nothing extraordinary about it. We Koreans might have had good reasons to brag about it if Ahn had invented a new type of flying machine; or if he had been one out of ten thousand aspirants for the honor of being a successful flyer. But Ahn, being only one of the thousands who have learned to fly in a machine invented by someone else there is nothing to fuss about him. But the Tong-Ah-Ill-Po has been devoting pages after pages for the weeks past to the glorification of Ahn. An association has been organized to aid him to visit Korea in a plane etc. Subscriptions have been exacted. What fools unspeakable! This kind of doing only demonstrates to the world the childishness of the Korean people.

Stayed at home. The year of grace 1922 is almost gone: This year I have had sickness of the precious children during the months of March, April and May, and of myself in June, July and August. Yet thank God we have safely passed through these tedious sickly months. In the whole we have every reason to thank God for his goodness and only pray that He will continue to bless us in the years to come.

金竹山, 趙學元, 劉昇姬 have all left this world of mysteries for that world from which no traveler has ever returned to report what he found there. Oh I feel so lonely and sad when I think of the utter vanity of human life―this life so full of evils which we find no strength in ourselves to overcome. After all God is our only tower of strength. Eliminate Him from the world and what have you but a chaos? Eliminate Him from our lives and what have you but despair? God be with us all, our wisdom, our strength and our cheer!

About 3 p.m. with wife and children called on Dr. and Mrs. Pinson and Bishop and Mrs. Boaz. Miss Boaz is certainly one of the sweetest girl I have seen. I don't think she is beautiful; yet she is more than beautiful in her gentleness, sweetness and womanliness.

The 宗橋 Church has a house to rent. In today's meeting of the stewards of the church 張鍊敎 said "Whatever you do, don't rent it to a church member(敎人) . Instead of his religion making him do his duty, he evades his duty under the cloak of religion."
