Seoul home. 11:30 a.m. with 琦善 went to the dedication exercises of the 仁昌學校 outside of the 東小門. Mr. 孫昌源 gave in money, land and buildings close to ¥180,000(00/100) to this school. A remarkable thing for a Korean―especially for a man who made every cent of the fortune by himself. He has been fortunate in having had for a business manager, Mr. 金一善, one of the most level headed and fair minded Koreans I have seen.
86
28th. Monday. Pretty Cool.
87
Seoul home. Wife to the dentist in the morning. From 2―with 琦善 and Mr. 洪性友 went to 永度寺 for a promenade. Attended the 우리親睦會 social meeting. This club is composed of the representatives of all religions and quasi―religions in Seoul for the sole purpose of cultivating social intercourse between them. I don't think much will come of it.
88
I visited 永度寺 nearly 20 years ago. The monks are nothing but restaurant keepers―ignorant, dirty and insolent. There is no more Buddhism in 永度寺 than Christianity in Pak Sung Bong.
