Seoul home. Lucretia, the wife of the famous artist, Andrea is said to have been "a vixen" who "tormented her husband from morning till night with her bitter tongue". "She did not love him in the least but only what his money could buy for her." This woman lived in Florence 4 and half centuries ago. Yet she has an exact counterpart in wife. This afternoon seeing her sorting some vagetable in the yard I sent precious 璋善 with my sweater to put on her. The dear child brought it back and said "어머니가 걱정해오. 어러 죽거던 속에 파뭇으라고 해오."(Mamma scolded me saying if she was frozen to death bury her under the ground.) This is her way of asking me to buy her a soft expensive sweater.

Oh mystery of misteries, what is life? An ant or a bee dies―what becomes the force we call life that animated it? A lion or an elephant dies what becomes the force we call life that animated him? You say nothing remains of a bee or a lion after the dissolution of its physical organism. What right have you to say that when a man dies, his life or soul goes on living?
