Seoul home. Dr. Parmerlee, an American psychologist representing a News-Association, gave a lecture at the Central Y. on the attracting theme "The Prevention of Poverty." Inspite of the uninviting hour of 5 p.m. the room was packed because of the theme and the drumming of the 朝鮮日報. I had to interpret for him. His cure for poor was the introduction of "Industrial Democracy". Of course he had no time to explain how that was to be done

Song Do home. Worshipped at the Central Church. I spoke on the "Mount of Beatitudes" which none has climbed in spite of the innumerable attempts for the last 20 centuries.

Dr. Parmerlee dropped in and I had to entertain him until the train hour viz: 8 p.m. He seemed to be hard-headed scientist who explains away everything which we common mortals think mysterious―dreams, spiritualism etc.

Allen returned from Japan, having learned there that Helen had stoped off Honolulu. His telegram from the Yokohama station sent in the early p.m. of the 9th inst., came to hand only this afternoon.

Seoul home. Torrential rain all last night. Signs of clearing up about 9 a.m. Flooding of houses and fields all over of the middle and Southern Korea. The Han River is reported to have risen 36 ft. and 8 inches at 纛島, the highest rise since last 乙丑年 or 1865, when the river rose 37 ft.

Seoul home. The Seoul water works―reported to be in ruin. Stories of heartrending tragedies in thousands of little homes in the Extra published by the news offices. 漢江 40 ft. 6 inches at 纛島 4:30 this morning. Whole villages wiped out literally along the river. All railroad communications stopped. Telephones not working. Worst of all no sign of clearing up. The biggest flood since 1865, they say.

Arriving there about 8:30―found the little fellow's mortal remains already buried while his mother is in the Hospital with 貞姬. I can't get the image of that precious little fellow from my vision.

Received wireless message from Helen saying that she would hand on Yokohama on the 23d inst. I wish she didn't come home this time of the year.

白副尉 told me that Allen's wife is growing worse and worse in her temper and badness. She invites 白泰星 and 李始昌 to her room go to 泰星's room and bore him to death with same kind of questions about 마음사랑(heart's love) and 몸사랑(bodily love.) .

Seoul home. Our precious Helen arrived home per last night's Express train due to South Gate Station 7:45 this morning. Fourteen years ago, she left us a delicate child of Seven; now she has returned home a young lady a highly educated "American" girl, with the Phi Betta Ka Rey. God be thanked for it all!

Helen can't speak a world of Korean. Until she has learned the Korean language her education will be of no avail to the Korean people.

貞姬 had to be removed to Dr. 朴啓陽's hospital. The indifference and carelessness of the Severance people are simply awful. Yet they charge ¥7.00 per day.
