Seoul home. Received a fat volume on the Proposed Plan for a Larger Seoul. I am supposed to be one of the Committee. But what interest can I or any other Korean have in such a plan? If the present rate of Japanization of Seoul proceed without any unforeseen hindrance, there will be no Korean resident or merchant living in the central and business sections of the city 15 years hence. Since the Governor General's office or 總督府 came to the new building in 景福宮 two years ago, the Japanese officials and private citizens have been feverish in Japanizing the district surrounding the old North Palace. The streets have been macadamized, the carlines have been double tracted, new Japanese houses have been built with a rush. In less than five years the north section of the city surrounding the new 總督府 will be as fully Japanized as the districts surrounding the former Japanese Legation. I or any other Korean can have no more interest in the Seoul to be than in the improvements or enlargement of New York or Chicago.

Seoul home. To 逍遙山 with cousins 致昭 and 趙寔. The walk from the 東豆川 Station to the Temple would have been pleasant but for the fact that I had a very poor sleep last night. 明姬 and her schoolmates seemed to enjoy the outing. The hills in the vicinity of the temple beautiful with the Autumn colors of the season. But the temple and the monks and hired men who served the table look all so dirty and stupid―I didn't like the place at all. Returned by 3:45 p.m. train thoroughly tired.

This morning's paper reports the death of Mr. 朴宗鉉 of Song Do. I met him only a few weeks ago―a picture of good health. We talked about the enfeebled condition of 蜜啞子―did he or any of us even dream that he would be so soon dead and 蜜啞子 still living?
