Seoul home. Their Highness Prince and Princess Yi gave a garden reception in the 昌慶苑. The Japanese guests, both men and women far outnumbered the Korean. Met 羅知事, 姜錫浩―the former whom I had known in 1883~4 in the Palace and the later who took an active part in the last stage of ruin of the Yi Dynasty. Mr. 羅 is a decent old man. I had unutterable feeling of sadness at the sight of 演慶堂 where in the Summer of 1884, Her Majesty, the then queen gave me a watch and other things. The 太乙門 at the front of which I used sit practicing my English by writing some simple word on the ground is still there.
