Seoul home. The C.C.C. boys struck. Fools! The reasons or demands on which the strike is called, do not bear any rational examination. I am glad the faculty took a firm stand deciding to close the school for a year or two rather than to give in to the senseless demands of the ingrates.
25
Min Won Sik, who came to Seoul the day before yesterday told me only this afternoon 3:30 that he had left 致昌 and his bride at 長春 owing to the lack of traveling expenses etc. 致旺 left for 長春 8 p.m.

9. 6월 9일

27
9th. Sunday. Beautiful. Scorching heat.

28
Seoul home. Worshipped at 宗橋 Church. After lunch took children to the Han River―an hour of boat riding. Awfully dust between the terminus of the tram car and the river bank.

34
8:19 a.m. left Song Do on the train which brought 致昌 and bride from 長春. So happy to see them come home all safe and sound. Rain between 8:30 and 10:30. Mere sprinkling―very tantalizing.
35
Lunch at Dr. Avison's, to meet three of the journalists (Americans) who are visiting the Far East. Marquis 朴 and Cynn were two Koreans besides myself.

41
Seoul home. Frank Brockman passed away 10th inst. Korea has lost a friend indeed. I feel his loss as keenly as if he were my brother. God be good to his wife and children.
42
Went to the Seoul Stadium to begin the 10th Annual Athletic Meet of Korea at 9:30 a.m.

14. 6월 14일

48
Seoul home. 3rd day of the Tenth Annual Athletic Meet of Korea. A vigorous shower between 12:30 and 1.
49
挺善 began to show symptoms of measles.
50
The Athletic program went off all O.K. until the baseball match between the 培材 and 徽文 boys. The score stood even at the 5th inning when a slight dispute about a technical point made the 培材 team to withdraw. Then the 培材 boys assaulted the umpire in an auto and beat him so he had to be taken to a hospital. The 培材 boys made themselves stink in the nostrils of everybody by this act of unsportsman likeness. 馬春植 is wholly responsible for the withdrawal.

16. 6월 16일

52
16th. Sunday. Bright. Very hot.

53
With 致昌 left Seoul 7:30 a.m. for 溫陽―arriving there about 11. After lunch and bathing we paid our respect to our father's tomb. Returned to Seoul per the train which left 天安 at 4:00 p.m. This burning drought continues and no sign of rain.

17. 6월 17일

55
17th. Monday. Bright. Hot.

56
Seoul home. From 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. the 朝鮮基督敎靑年聯合會三年大會 met at the Central Y. Thanks to the thoughtful preparations of Mr. Cynn, everything went off quick and quiet.

18. 6월 18일

58
18th. Tuesday. Cloud. Cool morning.

59
Seoul home. 珽善 shows signs of improvement. Overheating and overfeeding give the little fellow no chance to get well and strong. Wife fears "baram" or air more than anything else. She and the little children sleep in a room with all the doors closed tight-making the air unbearably stuffy, fetid, stifling. She is absolutely impervious to kindness and advice.

19. 6월 19일

61
19th. Wednesday. Bright. Scorching heat.

62
Seoul home.

20. 6월 20일

65
Seoul home. The dreadful drought continues.
66
A great famine plus the low price of rice―no doubt a part of the 3 y. policy of Japan in Korea―the Korean people have no money―simply no money. Inspite of this fact, perhaps because of this fact, the Government General is going to have a Korean Exhibition. They are going to compel the country folks to visit the show to the extent of lending money for the traveling expenses. Very kind! The Mayor is levying voluntary contributions from the Korean residents in Seoul to the time of 160 thousand yen. He demands of me ¥300.00. Nobody is to be profited by the Exhibition but the Japanese: the railroads, the tramways, the Japanese department stores, the Japanese money lenders and finally the Japanese land grabbers. For this we Koreans are asked or rather compelled to pay, (to us) , huge sums of money in the name of public good. When we portest that we can't live under those exactions, the Japanese answer―the only answer―expressed or implied is: "Who want you to live?"

21. 6월 21일

81
Seoul home. 朴璋淳, a young man who used to be a student in the theological school of the Oriental Mission―the Holiness Mission,―went to the U.S. about 15 years ago. He has just returned with a very pretty American wife and a boy about 7 years old. I feel so sorry for the pretty American girl―for to the humiliation of being the wife of a Korean. She will have to drain the cup of bitterness of the ostracization of the foreign community in Korea―in the Far East as for that matter, certainly her love for 朴 must be a genuine article to have compelled her to make such a sacrifice. I understand she is of a good family, too.

26. 6월 26일

83
26th. Wednesday. Cloud and sun. Steamy.

84

27. 6월 27일

86
27th. Thursday. Cloudy. Steamy.

87
Seoul home. Unsatisfactory showers on and off. Something like rain between 4 and 6 p.m. Then real rain all evening and night.

28. 6월 28일

89
28th. Friday. Rain. Cool.

90
Seoul home. Rain―hope this rain is equally and gently distributed.

29. 6월 29일

92
29th. Saturday. Cloud. Cool.

93
Seoul home. 致昌 and his wife left Seoul 9:05―delay 9:45 a.m. for 長春 on their way to 吉林 where the bride's parents live. I didn't want 致昌 go at least to 吉林. But the influence of his wife seems to be very great on him. I'm sorry to hear that she doesn't want to read just herself to the Korean way of living in the matter of dress, food and house keeping in general. She says in short: What's use of being educated at home or abroad if you want to live the same way as Koreans have lived too centuries? She seems to think on these lines as out of common sense as one wayward Helen does. If girls all go off tangent like these what's use of educating them above the primary grade?

30. 6월 30일

95
30th. Sunday. Bright. Hot-Steamy.

96
Seoul home. Spent the p.m. at 傳巖亭 with children. Home 7:30 p.m.
