傳巖亭. The day began with a clean swept sky without a single speck of cloud. A terribly hot day. Just 3 whole weeks―21days of scorching run without rain. The fate of the rice crops in the Southern Provinces is said to be already.

傳巖亭. Last night was the hottest night I have experienced since I came out here. The awful drought seems to have given mosquitoes a world of prosperity. Wire screened doors no proof against the pest. Simply couldn't sleep.

傳巖亭. From about 6 a.m. welcome showers on and off until about 8:30. Barely enough to moisten the mere surface of the ground that has been parched by a blazing sun for three successive weeks. Showers in the afternoon so unsatisfactory―so insufficient.

傳巖亭. A brief shower about 5:30 p.m. These showers are to the needs of rice fields but a "flake of snow in a blazing brasier" to use the lingo of a Korean paper.

The Tong-A-Il-Po people think or assert that traffic in office selling is an open secret. From ￥6,000.00 to ￥30,000.00 for a 郡守. The Gov. Genl. is a most gold thirsty man we have had in the shape of a Gov. G. His onetime private Secretary is now in the hands of the police for bribe-taking on a grand-scale.

傳巖亭. Vapor laden clouds floating about all day―yet no rain. About 6:30 p.m. a beautiful rainbow stood from N.E. to S.W When some people expressed fear that the rainbow was a sign of drought, 昌燮 said it was a sign of coming rain quoting the proverb in his district to the effect that 東便에 무지개 스거던 내 건너 소매지마라(“When you see a rainbow in the East, don't tether your cow on the other side of the stream") . So anxious I was about the long drought that I felt grateful for the interpretation.

Went to the city home. Bathing in the Y. Brother T.C. tells me that the uncle of his wife had come for ￥1,000.00 to be used for moving the family of Pastor Sohn to a safer place!

傳巖亭. Went to the city 12:30. Attended the wedding of Mr. 元應常's son at 2:30 p.m. Went to 漢江 4 p.m. with Messrs. 申興雨, 宋鎭禹, 金性洙, 白寬洙, 兪億兼 and Miss Kim Helen for supper on the boat. Decided to accept the invitation to the Pacific Relation Conference to be held at Kyoto in Oct. Organized a 太平洋會議…會 with Messrs. 申, 宋, 白, 兪 and Miss Helen K, who had attended the 1st and 2nd meetings of the Conference, and Mr. Kim S.S. and myself, as sympathizers of the plan for membership. I returned to 傳巖亭 about 9:30.
