Seoul home. By 8:10 a.m. train went to Song Do With 珽善. Brother Chi Wang also went there. Attended the graduation worship in the Memorial Hall which the school has built in honor of my service. The building cost ￥80,000.00 of which ￥50,000.00 was given by the Mission. The Hall seats about 1,200 people. I am grateful to the Mission and to Principal Kim Joon Ok who has done for me this honor.

Wife, Mrs. Hong and Sun Hie's grandma who had gone to Song Do yesterday attended the service. Had luncheon at Allen's home. Returned to Seoul per 3:50 p.m. train.

Seoul home. The Methodist Believers' Mass Meeting had opening exercise at Citizens' Hall. The middle hall packed to over flowing.

At 2:30 p.m. the Mass Meeting was held in the First Methodist Church, Jung Dong. I spoke on the Consummation of the Union of Japan and Korea not only in physical and political aspects but in heart and spirit.

Seoul home. From 4 to 6 p.m. the Committee on Revision of the Regulations or Constitution of the Methodist New Structure met at Hugh Cynn's home. As Cynnites had prepared these Regulations from suggestion and even dictations of the Police authorities (I-tei and Kitamura) nobody dared to make any radical changes. The Cynnites fearing that Yi Yun Yung of Pyong Yang might prove troublesome, Inouye of the Provincial Police Dept. summoned Yi to his office and kept him until 6.

The Committee on Regulations met again at Cynn's home from 2:30 p.m. Cynn produced the suggestions of Mr. Itei, the Higher Police on Religion, penciled out by Itei himself thus preventing any discussions on any important items by our party. Yi Yun Yung was again absent. The whole aim and purpose of Cynn and his gang is to seize the entire church and put it all under the absolute control of Hugh Cynn―with his puppet Jung Choon Soo as the nominal Director of the New Structure.

Hear brother Chi-Wang is a great drinker―emptying more than a dozen bottles of beer and that all alone. his debt is near ￥300,000.00 of which ￥210,000.00 is due to the Oriental Development Co. Yet he seems to spend money like a millionaire. He actually keeps three autos! He borrows from users at the exorbitant rate of 20 to 25 per cent interest for two months to meet the clamorous demands of his Shylocks.

Seoul home. A session of Special General Conference was held in the Methodist Church at Jung Dong. The New Structure of Methodist Church of Korea, inspired and formulated by the Police authorities was born today under the shadow of the all mighty Police. Hugh Cynn and his crowd are triumphant.

This morning I suggested to Kitamura, Chief of the High Police Section of the Provincial Police Dept. that the General Conference should be given a chance to elect the new Director(敎團統理長) as provided in the Ⅲ Article of the New Regulations, he told me frankly that Jung Choon Soo having been used by the authorities to bring about the New Structure they would regard any opposition to him not as against him but against the New Structure and the authorities. I saw the point and promised I would keep quiet.

Seoul home. Rain all last night, all this morning until 10 when heavy fall of snow began and didn't stop until 1 p.m. In spite of the fact that the snow melted almost before it hit the watery ground it measured over 3 inches where it fell undisturbed.

12 morning I accompanied our baby 珽善 to Keiki Middle School where 800 or more applicants for entrance examination were gathered to hear instructions in regard to examinations which are to begin from tomorrow for 4 consecutive days. Returned home about 2 p.m.

I invited Mr. Matsumoto and Yu O.K. to a sukiyaki supper at Yedogawa to talk over our initial plans we have to pursue as soon as we assume the responsibilities of C.C.C. Our conference began at five and it was 9 when we parted for our homes. A beautiful star-lit sky.

Seoul home. 8:30 a.m. went to Keiki Middle School with 珽善 to stand the entrance examination which began this morning. 844 applicants while the school can receive only 200. There about 14 middle schools in the city to accommodate only 2,000 new students. Over 8,000 are competing. Where will the 6,000 boys go?

Seoul home. Last autumn, some 6 months ago our baby 珽善 was coming home through the crowd that thronged the night markets on the south side side-walk of the Bell Street. He happened to see a Japanese gentleman in Japanese kimono with his wife and a boy trying to buy a pair of rubber shoes. The Korean merchant didn't understand Japanese while the Japanese couldn't speak a word of Korean. So there was a very awkward impasse between the merchant and his customer. Our boy offered to interpret for them. The bargain was successfully concluded. Of course our boy had no idea who the Japanese gentleman was. It turned out today that the Japanese is the physical instructor―a very important personage in the school―the very school which our boy is hoping to enter. We are sure the instructor will do his best for our boy.

Seoul home. Rain from midnight until 7 this morning. By 10:20 a.m. train went to Shin Chon Station. Dr. Underwood's auto met me and took me to his house.

Dr. Underwood complains that Yu O.K. is too dictatorial telling everyone do this and that as if he were already the boss of the institution without consulting men who have been in the service for years. Dr. Underwood is dead against putting Jung Nai Kil(丁來吉) at the head of the Commercial Dept.

From 11 Dr. Underwood, Dr. Matsumoto, Mr. Yu and I had conference in a quiet upper chamber. Dr. Underwood didn't seem to relish some of the appointments which I had planned. Both Matsumoto and I couldn't help agreeing that Jung Nai Kil shouldn't be appointed the head of the Commercial Dept. against such opposition. Lunch at Dr. Underwood's home.

Seoul home. 10 a.m. with wife went to Jai Dong Primary School to attend the graduation exercises. Our boy 珽善 received the graduation certificate with honor. Thank God. He has gone through the six years without any serious accident.

Seoul home. 12 morning wife, 明姬, 文姬, and I went to Keiki Middle School to see the names (by numbers) of the boys who had passed successfully the entrance examinations. It was a great relief and joy to us to see our 珽善(No. 390) among the boys admitted.

Yu O.K. phoned that the official permit for my presidency of C.C.C. had been granted―I had to go to C.C.C. to announce the appointment of new chiefs of the Literary, Commercial Science Departments. Returned home per 1:13 p.m. train. Am sorry Yu O.K. is too brusque or rather dictatorial in his language and manners in telling people to do things. He is so loquacious that he wouldn't stop talking when he has once started. He often says things that grate badly on the sensibility of his hearers. He talks so fast and so much that he doesn't have time to think about the reactions of his hearers. He is energetic but he makes many enemies.

But he being in the Conference Room we had to leave our cards only.

Seoul home. Went to Jai Dong Primary School with wife to see 文姬's 2nd boy, Chi-Wang's 2nd boy and Chi-Chang's 1st boy going in to stands entrance examination. We had to stay on the school ground for 3 hours. Near 400 little applicants of whom only 230 can be received.

6 p.m. went to Chosun Hotel where nearly a hundred person connected with educational institutions gave a farewell dinner in honor of Mr. Shiobara.
