Early in the morning an Extra(號外) of Keijo Nippo announced the electrifying news that Japan had begun fighting against England and America on the Western Pacific Ocean(西太平洋上デ遂ニ英米ト交戰) at dawn this morning. A New Day has indeed dawned on the Old World! This is a real war of races―the Yellow against the White.

If England and France are 50% responsible for the Second European War America is 100% responsible for this Pacific War. America has neither the necessity nor the obligation to start this war by forcing Japan into it.

It is reported that Honolulu and the American Naval Fortifications at Pearl Harbor were so suddenly bombed and shelled from airplanes and gunboats 7:35 (Hawaii time) yesterday morning that very serious damages were done to the U.S. fleets and planes etc. Roosevelt traditions, he seems to be great lover of bombastic shows. By persisting in helping Chiang K.S., by refusing to sell scrap irons and oil to Japan, by forming economic blockade―the A.B.C.D. blockade against Japan by every known and unknown effort making determined attempt to strangle the very life of Japan, Roosevelt has started a war that will curse every country bordering the Great Pacific Ocean. Since Japan has begun this greatest war in the history of mankind, I do hope that she will succeed in delivering the colored races from the intolerable racial prejudices and national aggression and arrogance of the white races in general and the Anglo-Saxons in particular.

Fifty six years ago when I first went to Shanghai I was deeply grieved to see a long shingle with these words in Chinese and English "No dogs and Chinese are admitted," hung at the entrance to the park just across the bridge over the Soochow Creek as you went into the proud English settlement. I was shocking. But the English, the Americans and the white race have hung that shingle at the entrance of every continent they have conquered. Now Japan has risen almost unconsciously to tear their shingle down and say to the white races: "Live and let live." Oh, I pray that Japan may succeed in not only puncturing the balloon of Anglo-Saxon racial prejudices and injustice and arrogance but in tearing that balloon to shreds and tell them "Go to hell with your boasted science discoveries and inventions with which you have kept the colored races in subjection and shame for so many centuries."

America, the greatest and richest country in the world today should have remained calm and defensive, not provoking one party against another, until such time as the world gets ready for peace negotiations. Now that the big fool Roosevelt has plunged his country and the whole Americas into a terrible war―what will become of the world?

Seoul home. This morning's papers spread the joyful news that the British Commanders who had persistently defended Hong Kong against the gallant assaults of the Japanese for the last 18 days surrendered yesterday afternoon 5:50. Thus the citadel of the British Imperialism with its intolerable racial prejudice and equally intolerable national arrogance in the East has fallen―I hope forever. Japan deserves the undying gratitude of all colored races for having broken the spell of white domination in the East. Just 100 years ago(1841) England seized Hong Kong as an indemnity nation has ever waged against 400 million peaceful people.

Seoul home. 11 a.m. train, went to C.C.C. where the graduating exercises were held at 2:40 p.m. The gloomy and chilly weather kept many people away except the parents or friends of the graduation boys. By the way this is the very first graduating service ever held under the presidency of a Korean President. Had the missionaries been wiser than they are proud they should have put the institution long before this under the presidency and management of the Korean.

These to be published in the paper.
