Seoul home. Called on 李憲, the son of Mr. 李丙黙, who returned to Korea from London two days ago. Mr. 李憲 told me that my brother 致旺 was still in Glasgow serving as an intern in a hospital.

Seoul home. Day of Funeral Service for the Ex-Emperor(純宗皇帝) . The streets of the city is literally alive with people from the country to see the Funeral Procession. The streets from the Palace 昌德宮 to 訓練院 where 永訣式 or Farewell Services were held were lined with spectators several feet deep while the whole length of the thoroughfare was guarded by well-armed soldiers and police. The Japanese authorities left no loophole for a attempt at disturbance on the part of the Korean agitators. I, with uncle and two cousins went inside of the 訓練院式場 from 7:30 a.m. The whole ceremonies of the Function didn't close until near 12.

Students of the 中央, 延禧, 普城專門, schools attempted at broadcasting hand bills and at shouting 萬歲. They were promptly arrested and conveyed to police stations. Stampede ensued injuring many persons.

This Funeral Week, has given the Seoul Electric Company a golden harvest. Thus whether a Korean emperor lives or dies the Japanese are the only people benefitted while the Koreans only are the losers. All things seem to work together for good to the Japanese.

I am aging fast. Concentrating my eye sight on reading or writing for five minutes strains and hurts the eyes to that I haven't been able to read for over 6 months. Sleeplessness and lack of a appetite make me feel tired and worn out all the time. The heartlessness and thoughtlessness of wife: the incompetence and ingratitude of employee; the meanness and thorough wickedness of most Koreans with whom I have any business dealings, the worry and anxiety and actual losses which I have been suffering on account of the 彰文社 all these tell on my nervous system without much to encourage and refresh me. At this rate of aging who can tell how soon I may leave this world for good? All I pray for is that, when the time comes for me to leave this world, I may do so without any physical and mental pains with gratitude for the past and cheer for the future. Amen!

Seoul home. The 時代日報 reports a strike or demands with ultimatum presented by the 3rd year boys of the Song Do Higher Common School on the 14th inst. The demands charge the Principal Mr. Weems, with being dictatorial, racial arrogance and emphasizing religious propaganda more than liberal education.

Seoul home. Had 彰文社重役會 and decided to fight out the issue with the "yellow dog"(黃命範) instead of buying him off by paying him ￥900.00 which the beggar demands.

Hear that the 3rd year and 2nd year boys of the Song Do H.C.S. actually kept Mr. Weems and Mr. Snyder prisoners in their offices from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. not allowing them(Messrs W. and S.) to go to the toilet or to their homes for lunch. Mrs. W. who brought lunch and papers to her husband was refused admission. The Korean teachers had to call in the police to rescue Mr. W. from the degrading situation. The boys acted more like bandits than students. I am afraid the Bolshevik agents in Song Do are backing the boys.

The immediate cause of the recent strike in the Song Do H.C.S. seems to be the unwise attitude of Mr. Weems in regard to the Bible lessons. The complaints are (1) that he required the boys to memorize verses; (2) that he handled roughly a boy who refused to study the Bible etc. what a nonsense to compel the Korean students of today to study the Bible against their wishes, and worse still, to memorize the verses. Men like Mr. Weems shouldn't try to teach the Bible to the students―specially in Korean.

Seoul home. A reception was held from 4:30 to 7:30 at 明月館 to welcome Dr. Schofield, perhaps the most popular American among the Koreans. His energetic and fearless attitude, during the Independence movement in 1919 in favor of the Koreans has won him the universal gratitude of all classes especially of the younger generation. Everybody was deeply moved when Dr. S. recited how he had saved out of his scanty income for the last 6 years just to visit Korea once more to see his Korean friends. The reception was remarkable in the fact all faiths all isms were represented at the table.
