Seoul home. Boat riding from 3 to 6 p.m.―a welcome reception to the delegates of the Annual Conference. Bishop Ainsworth and his wife invited. They must have been miserable enough trying to put on the most cheerful appearance as they could. The boats were crowded―the river muddy, nothing pretty in sight on both sides of the bank. The Korean feast was nothing to be bragged about. I suggested to Mr. Lim to let the Bishop and his wife retire after the usual speech making. Certainly that was an act of mercy to them!

On arriving home, got a cablegram from 致旺 saying: "Please cable hundred fifty Yun". What does he mean? I cabled him £150/ on the 9th July. Didn't he get the money? Or does he want another £150/ over and above the money I cabled on July 9th. Why doesn't he write?

Hear that 旺善, the 3rd son of cousin 致旿 died in Hastings Nob. last Friday. He was a good boy. Cousin 致暎 had cabled to cousin 致昭 for2,200.00! The latter is dumbfounded. Only a few week ago cousin 致昭 sent750.00 of which I gave150.00.

From 6 to 9 p.m. a welcome supper was given at 明月館 to Dr. Avison and Underwood and their wives. Over 100 guests assembled representing various groups of the Korean society to welcome the American friends.
