Seoul home. Lunch at Mr. Hong Byeng Sun's new house. The Fire-Brigade Association of Korea(朝鮮消防協會) had its official organization ceremony in the Grand Hall of the Government General Bdg. Five Hundred thousand yen(500,000.00) have been raised throughout Korea by private subscription. I suppose at least half or more of this big sum have come from the Korean's pocket. Yet not a single Korean was given a place in the long, dry, solemn-as-funeral, program of the occasion.

Seoul home. Left Seoul 10:10 a.m. with 璋, 埼, for 溫陽溫泉. Arrived about 1:30. Found all the old land marks of the Royal hot springs gone. In their place an entirely new plant―in conveniency, in beauty, in utility incomparably superior to the old plant. The common bath a splendid pool. Strange Japs allow really dirty looking Koreans go into this fine bath―I suppose they do it now as a piece of advertisement. In a few years no Korean inns or Korean owned houses will be found anywhere near the central bath.

Seoul home. Brother(致旺) has been back home just a year and 4 months. On his return I handed over to him deposits―of three kinds(完預, 通預 and 特別通帳―amounting to ¥21,478.00 not including interests on the sum. His income this year must have given no less than over ten thousand yen in clean cash. He has spent then ¥32,000.00(a great deal more) in 16 months and is borrowing from little brother's fund―¥4,120.00 already. 致旺 is a nice fellow and sensible too. I only wish he had learned the thrifty habits of the Scotch―among whom he had spent so many years!
