Y.M.C.A. as usual. At 4 p.m. went out to 淸凉寺 to entertain 勞動課講師. Wife, Mary Abbe, and Surmo went too. Had a quiet supper. 李商在, 崔相浩 諸氏參席.

Y.M.C.A. as usual. Worshipped in the 宗橋 Church as usual. At 4 玄楯 preached in the Y.M.C.A. Gospel Meeting.

Y.M.C.A. as usual. 4:30 p.m. the B. of D. went in the building. The chairmen of different committee appointed. Mr. Hobbs elected in the room of Dr. Underwood. At 12 morning took lunch at Mr. 李世稙's house. Found his boy a very bright.

Y.M.C.A. as usual. Entertained the football team from 東京 to Korean supper. The Y.M.C.A. football team also present. Understand that the police has prohibited the Korean football team from playing on the ground that their "High-kara"ism might set as bad example to the young men of Seoul. Certainly the Korean young men from Tokyo dress too well for students―especially considering the wretched poverty of Korea today.

Y.M.C.A. as usual. Mr. Hugh Miller left Seoul for his home by the 8:30 a.m. train. T.M.B. and Yi Sang Chai went to 平壤 to open and conduct the 夏令會 by the 9:10 a.m. train.

Y.M.C.A. as usual. At 10 a.m. called on 宇佐美 in his office. He asked me to find out who is to be the successor of Pastor 0 in Tokyo.

7th. Friday. Cloudy―steamy.

Called on Rev. Smith and Mr. Koones to find out who the successor of Pastor 0 is; but they could give no information on this subject.

Y.M.C.A. as usual. Received a letter from Allen.

Y.M.C.A. usual. Paid Rondon I Co. of seoul and Bennett Co. of Chemulpo premiums on insurances. This obliged me to change my plan of going to 平壤 by the 9:10 a.m. train. By the 4:20 pm. train went to Song Do.

Had bad sleep last night owing to 빈 and 빈약. Rested all day. 8 p.m. went to church. Tired, feverish.

By 11 a.m. train went to 平壤. Arrived at 4 p.m. Met by 李炳斗. Went to the boat straight where a member of Meth. had prepared a meal for us Seoul Y.M.C.A. men. Stayed in the boat until 7 p.m. Then to the 神學校. A packed house. I had no mind to talk―too tired and sick. To flee from 빈 in the dormitory, 玄楯, 洪鍾求, 金河鍾 and I went to a boat and slept there. Mrs. Hall, the only person I wanted to see in Pyong Yang was away from the city―a great disappointment.

車履錫 brought us breakfast; the shape of 溫麵. At 9, all the party went to the meeting, but I stayed on the boat until 12 morning. Left 平壤 at 1:30. Arrived Seoul at 7:30 p.m.

At 4 went to Y.M.C.A. and called on 松井信助 with Brockman and offered to subscribe to the Night Market Fund to show our appreciation. The 勞動學校放學式. Mr. Abe spoke. Wife sick―Baby sick. Wrote to Mrs. Hardie and Miss Peden.

Y.M.C.A. as usual. Wife sick yet unable to rest owing to the restlessness of 恩姬. I couldn't sleep either. At 7 p.m. went to 朝鮮ホテル to the 日露協約 celebration. 會費 ¥2.50. The tables which has Korean guests alone were so badly served or rather not served at all. We pay good money for bad treatment.

Baby sick very bad last night. Lunch at 明月館 at the invitation of 趙重應. 李商在, 兪星濬, 金麟 and myself were guests. 趙 delivered his lecture against missionaries. The 鍾路夜市 formally opened.

Slept in the morning. Spent most of the p.m. with cousin 局長. 鄭孝媛 was present. She was not very attractive in person; but she can write and compose Chinese couplets. Called on 松井署長.

23nd. Sunday. Rainy―all day long.

Worshipped in the 宗橋 Church as usual. Baby still sick. Lunch at 洪議官's home with Mary Abbe.
