The country air―the songs of birds and the beauty of the surrounding scenery―all this has refreshed me so that the dull headache I felt all through yesterday is gone.

At 11 a.m. Mr. 山縣 and 阿部 and 方台榮 came. They seem to be delighted with my retreat. They partook of the Korean lunch with me. At 4, I gave them tea to which Rev. Y.M.C.A. as usual. By 5:05 p.m. train went to 仁川. Rev. 董錫基 met me at the station and took me to his home. Was delighted with his neat parsonage, and his charming wife, except the Korean food, I felt, as of I was in an American Home. On the train, by the way, I met 徐丙儀. The son of Mr. 徐相壽. He has grown to be a handsome young fellow.

This morning 金麟 phoned me saying that 趙重應氏 had recently become 明治神宮副會長 and that 趙 suggested that the Y.M.C.A. should make a contribution toward it. Consulted with 崔相浩 and 金一善. They all agreed that such a thing would set missionaries and the Korean church solidly against the Y.M.C.A. The fact would place the Y.M.C.A. in very bad light. Of course so. I told 金麟 that if it was 明治紀念碑 or simple memorial building, we could contribute in it, but to a shrine we couldn't. K. is a rot.

The G.G. gave us a cordial interview and in order that we should emphasize industrial (hand-craft) education in our work. 8:30 田中光次郞 gave an exceedingly interesting lecture on Flies as Conductors of Disease. The Free Night School out en mass. No other audience―But why, the 學館 people, offices and students show no interest in the Y.M.C.A. work. Kim In tells me that yesterday's scene was instigated by 徐丙肇, 李明遠 and 金永濟. Brockman thinks as much Darnheart says he saw these men with 李用根, putting the peoples onto it.
