To Song Do by the gasoline car 7:34 p.m.

Dr. Fisher, Mr. Kim Joon Ok and I were appointed of the Board of Control of the Song Do H.C.S. to go to that city to settle the dispute between Dr. 金永羲 and Mr. 許, the athletic teacher. Their quarrel which divided the faculty into two hostile camps has been going on during several months past. We, the Committee so far succeeded in our job as to make the two men shake hands in reconciliation. Dr. Kim is an honest fellow but rather too inexperienced and self-conceited.
15
5th. Saturday. Cloudy―Stuffy.
18
6th. Sunday. Rain a.m. Pretty p.m.
21
7th. Monday. Sun. Real cold.
22
Seoul home. Such a sudden and frosty cold―said to be the coldest day for the last forty years this time of the year in Seoul.
25
Seoul home. Such a sudden frosty cold―80' below zero―yesterday then this morning ushers in a lovely day. Niece, 善姬's wedding took place at brother 致旺's home. Only a few intimate friends present besides our families. The bridegroom 申泰植 graduated from the Severance M. School two years ago. He is a nice young man. God bless the new couple!
27
9th. Wednesday. Lovely. Pleasant.
28
Seoul home. 潽善 called and told me that, while he can't forgive Myong Sun, he wouldn't object to his uncle 致旴's doing as he(致旴) pleases, as long as there is no contact between himself and 明善. That's all right; but it is simply absurd not to graciously forgive everyone concerned in the matter.
29
Po-sun intimated that he would like to go aborad to find something to do! What selfishness! Our Helen, Chi-Chang and his wife and this Posun seem to have gotten from expensive foreign education no higher notion of life than to have easy time―luxurious living―just for their precious selves!
31
10th. Thursday. Beautiful.
32
Seoul home. Very mild. My young friend 兪鎭采 of the Han Sung Bank tells me that 致旺 has a standing debt of ¥3,500 due to the Bank; that he(致旺) wants ¥2,000.00 more; that he is deeply offended because the Bank wouldn't give more than ¥1,500.00 I can't approve 致旺's spending so much beyond his income as to live under a standing debt. He must have spent thousands of yen on Sun Hui's wedding trousseau. That's his wife's fault who vies with wife for luxurious living.
34
11th. Friday. Mist―cloudy―Mild.
37
12th. Saturday. Beautiful.
40
13th. Sunday. Perfectly lovely.

43
14th. Monday. Pretty―Warm.
46
15th. Tuesday. Gloomy―Mild.
47
Seoul home. 2 p.m. went to C.C.C. to attend the opening ceremony of the Folk High School(農民修養所) . This is a novel experiment―trying to Koreanize the Folk High School ideas of Denmark. Even here we are rampered by the police for we are not given freedom to teach the national history and patriotic songs of Korea. I insisted on receiving no more students than we could manage conveniently―say 10 or 12, instead of 20 as was first planned. We have begun with 15 representing 12 Provinces.
49
16th. Wednesday. Cloud and sun.
52
17th. Thursday. Beautiful.
58
19th. Saturday. Pretty.
59
Seoul home. Brother 致旺 received a cable from 致昌 asking for ¥3,000.00―which at the present rate of exchange, will give him no more than600―U.S. Gold! 致昌's wife―whose highest ambition is to live like an American millionaire, seems to have completely hypnotized her husband. To such a girl American education is simply a curse.
61
20th. Sunday. Cloud a.m. Mild. Beautiful p.m.
62
Seoul home. A shower before dawn. From 10 a.m. a beautiful day―almost unseasonably warm.
64
21st. Monday. Pretty―Mild.
65
Seoul home. Supper at Miss Appenzeller's home. Drs. Cynn, Helen Kim, Messrs. Choi Jai Hak, and Song Eurn Yong present besides myself. The purpose of the gathering to talk about the ways and means of raising an endowment fund for the Ewha College. Decided to organize a 後援會 or Reinforcement Association whose object shall be to raise the Ewha Endowment Fund in Korea. Returned home about 10.
67
22nd. Tuesday. Smoky, mild a.m.
68
Seoul home. Beautiful as a perfect Spring day.
70
23rd. Wednesday. Beautiful.

74
Seoul home. Cloudy afternoon.
76
25th. Friday. Beautiful. Mild.
77
Seoul home. Received a phone message about 7 p.m. informing me of the death of my sister. While the nature and duration of her illness were such that her death had long been anticipated. Yet the actual event is a shock. Vanity of vanities. All is vanity.
79
26th. Saturday. Lovely. A little cold.
80
Left Seoul per 8:48 a.m. train for Won-san station with Mr. Yun Hak Soon. Arriving there 11:40 we footed it to sister's home. Paid my last respect to her earthly remains. Her son in fact every member of her family has done nothing in the way of preparation for the funeral ceremonies. He naively told me "We haven't done anything. We only waited for your coming". Oh these folks whose only business is to depend on somebody for living. I simply told him to prepare a list of an expenses with my man. The funeral will cost me ¥553.00 according to the estimate. While I can't grudge to give this for the last farewell expenditure of my sister, I can't help feeling that 澤鉉 is rather a shameless parasite.
82
27th. Sunday. Pale―Sun.
83
Seoul home. Yesterday afternoon we returned home a little before ten.
88
29th. Tuesday. Pretty.
91
30th. Wednesday. Beautiful.
92
Left Seoul 8:48 for 溫陽溫泉 with cousin 致昭 and Candler on cur way to 回龍里 to attend sister's funeral. Had a good bath. By train to 毛山 Station 4:30 p.m. From there we, cousins 致旴, 致昭, 明燮, 光善, and I, footed it to sister's home arriving there after dark. Put up for the night at a Mr. 金's sarang, the best in the village. Had a little nap from 10 to 12.
